The best and biggest step to stop the further spread of coronavirus is Quarantine.
Let’s take a look at the guidelines laid by the health authority on home quarantine:
What Is Quarantine /Isolation?
The term Home Quarantine is used for the person’s separation from other family members with the purpose of monitoring symptoms and early detection of cases. That person is not yet ill but might have been exposed to infectious agents or disease.
On the other hand, Isolation is a complete separation of an ill or infected person from others. The objective of Isolation is to prevent the spread of infection of contamination.
In the context of current COVID-19, outbreak, the confirmed cases, and suspects have been going for Isolation at medical facility and Quarantine at home, respectively.
The Quarantine period contains 14 days starting from the last time person was exposed to a COVID-19 patient, as per The World Health Organization Guidelines.
Now, we will discuss both of the terms more precisely:
Quarantine Is Recommended For:
A person who had been exposed to a confirmed case of COVID-19, that includes the people who live in the same household, neighbors, person’s milkman, etc. Also, Quarantine is necessary for those individuals who had visited regions with ongoing transmission of COVID-19.
In other words, a person who recently visited the corona affected areas should stay at home for 14 days since he/she has returned.
Such persons should:
- Avoid going to work or school
- Do not travel or go to any public transport
- Avoid visiting places where you can come into contact with large groups of people
- If finding any symptoms, immediately contact medical healthcare.
Home Isolation Is Recommended For
- Home isolation for people who are confirmed to have novel coronavirus (COVID-19).
- Somebody who is unwell and waiting for a test result of COVID-19.
Duration of Home quarantine
The duration of Home Quarantine is 14 days after being contacted with the COVID-19 patient. This is applicable even after you have tested negative for COVID-19 during that time.
If the person is extremely on low-risk, home isolation is not needed but they must observe symptoms regularly.
Confirmed cases must be immediately isolated as long as they display traits of the disease.
There certain specifications for all persons from the Government of India, who are home quarantined:
