Due to the corona outbreak, social media fueling the fire with plenty of misconceptions are spreading faster than the COVID-19. Here are some of the more common ones:
Misconception 1: Eating Chinese food is not safe and cause COVID-19
There is a myth roaming that claims that everything related to china is causing COVID-19. For clarification, the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) websites have not listed eating Chinese food as a risk for catching the new coronavirus.
Despite this, you might be getting messages on Whats App or whatever you use to connect with people. But that’s not true that if you cook Chinese cuisines, it is going to put you at higher risk for a 2019-nCoV infection.
Misconception 2: COVID-19 is more contagious and spreading faster than any other pathogen.
Nope, that’s not true! There have been many viruses that existed in the history of the earth that were much more contagious than the novel coronavirus. However, most of the viruses were treated with the vaccines. Hence, they did not seem worse.
Misconception 3: 2019-nCoV is more deadly than any other pathogen.
Those people who are claiming that every person who is getting infected with coronavirus will eventually be dying but that is not true because more people are recovering than being demised. The reality is that people are dying from heart disease, cancer, old age, or something else besides the infection, and, in many cases, years from now. Because no one lives forever, that’s the harsh reality!
Misconception 4: The vaccine is already available to stop the current pandemic
Nope, this coronavirus that we are dealing with is new. And therefore, there is no vaccine available against the virus that was previously unidentified. You know, developing a vaccine is bleeping difficult and takes time, money, and, real science.
Misconception 5: There is a supplement or some therapy available that can prevent or treat coronavirus infections.
One thing is for sure that when something gets popular even if it is a deadly disease, people come with stories and treatments. Just like that when coronavirus arose people are suggesting that some medicines or natural medicines can be curable. Well, those claims have no back with science and real facts that is why they can pretty much say anything.
What if a vaccine doesn’t work for coronavirus?
If a vaccine doesn’t work for coronavirus, we will definitely require a Plan B. The experts will suggest another plan. It has been said that the researchers will have to conduct randomized trials into non-drug interventions to prevent the spread of respiratory viruses. However, we all are waiting and hoping for the vaccine against COVID–19 in 2021. Unfortunately, the current pandemic is not letting us do a rapid trial on vaccines and other cures. Of course, scientists must be feeling pressure because it is a really big responsibility.
