Why Social Distancing is Necessary during Corona Outbreak: COVID-19

What is Social Distancing?

Social distancing, also known as physical distancing in Public Health, is a set of measures that are intended to prevent the transmission of a contagious disease.

It is done by maintaining a physical distance between people and reducing the number of people gatherings in public areas. In other words, social distancing involves keeping a certain distance (6 Ft. distance recommend during Corona pandemic) and avoiding gathering in large groups.

During the corona outbreak, social distancing has been recommended by experts to reduce the probability of uninfected persons come into physical contact with an infected person. The transmission can be suppressed by following and maintaining social distancing.

Social Distancing is used with a combination of good respiratory hygiene and hand washing. During this critical time of the corona outbreak, the World Health Organization (WHO) suggested favoring the term “physical distancing” as opposed to “social distancing”.

The idea behind this is that physical distance prevents transmission while people can remain socially connected through the internet or telephone.

Preventive measures slow down the spread of infection among the community and thus, provide some relief to healthcare systems during such dangerous times that have created havoc throughout the world.

As per the disease control experts, the government has implemented some measures like the closing of schools and workplaces, isolation, quarantine, and cancellation of mass gatherings during the corona outbreak.

Who has to stay at home even after relaxation by the government?

That population with certain underlying health conditions, aged over 70, or pregnant women are deemed to be clinically vulnerable. Experts suggested the vulnerable population to stay home as much as possible. In addition, if, in case, these people go out, they are advised to follow all the preventive measures carefully.

Another group of people that are categorized as clinically vulnerable includes cancer patients, people who have had organ transplants, and the part of the population with severe respiratory conditions.

They are less likely to recover from the dangerous disease, COVID-19. Therefore, experts strongly recommended them to stay at home at all times and avoid face-to-face contact.

No matter if you are no longer restricted to stay home, the corona is not gone from our lives, so, it is better to take responsibility for your own protection. Follow the guidelines before its too late.

Why is social distancing necessary in our lives?

Despite the fact that unlock 1.0 has been applied in the country, experts are stressing the need for keeping the safety distance of 2m (6ft) apart.
Following physical distancing is a must. The reason behind it is that a person that is COVID-19 infected can easily spread the virus by coughing or sneezing.

When that infected person coughs, small droplets contaminated with coronavirus comes from his mouth. So, when, an uninfected person breathes in, or touches the contaminated surface and then touches his eyes, nose, or mouth, the virus gets into his body.

The chances of coronavirus transmission are high in crowded, indoor spaces that is why restaurants, cinema halls, and many workplaces remain closed. Now, it is all in your hand to stay protected while the novel coronavirus exists on the earth and we have no vaccine available yet.
