Who are at a high risk of developing severe illness from Coronavirus

Previously declared a pandemic by the World Health Organisation (WHO), COVID-19 were close to 140,000 cases worldwide and 73 cases in India at that time. Nevertheless, not all are affected by the disease in the same way. Because, for many, the infection just gets mild and he/she may recover in a few days. But for some, it gets severe and life-threatening.

So, we are often wondering why some people are more severely affected by the disease than the others.

Canwinn Foundation is throwing light upon these reasons. As said by the WHO and the Centre for Disease Control (CDC) that the two influential groups of people who are more likely to be affected by the disease are the old-age individuals and those with underlying medical statuses.

The old-age individuals

Gathered from the data source of the Chinese Centre for Disease Control, the reports show that death rates due to COVID-19 are startlingly higher in people above the age of 60.

Similarly, studies have shown that 14.8% of people above the age of 80, 8% between the age of 70 and 79 and 3.6% between the ages of 60 and 69 died with Corona infection. People with weak immune systems and those with old-age struggles harder to fight off the COVID-19 infection. In such cases, symptoms extend to high fever and pulmonary difficulties that require the patient to be put on ventilators.

People with serious chronic medical conditions

Those who already have an underlying health condition are more prone to the infection causing severe symptoms. These conditions includes heart disease, diabetes or lung disease.

According to the studies, people with these underlying problems have a halt immune system that is not capable to fight off the disease.

Similarly, equivalent data from the Chinese CDC shows that the mortality rate among people with cardiovascular disease is 10.8%. The death rate among people with diabetes is 7.3% and among with respiratory diseases is 6.3%.

Furthermore, the reports of authorized organizations have made it clear that people with old age or those who have chronic underlying diseases are more likely to be affected by the novel coronavirus disease. They are vulnerable to get severely infected which may lead them to death. Therefore, they must take extra precautions and follow the advisories issued by the WHO and the CDC. Not limited to these people, those who are young and healthy, should also need to take the necessary precautions. You might not be prone to the coronavirus infection, but you may act as a carrier for those who are more severely affected.

So, it is better to take precautions and all the preventive measures daily.

Final Words

As time is critical and the world is under the attack of the dangerous virus, we all should stand together against COVID-19.
